Summer is quickly passing by. With just a few more weeks of the season remaining, be sure to get out and soak up the sun. While there are many green spaces to appreciate in Evanston, the Arrington Lagoon at Dawes Park happens to be a neighborhood favorite any time of year. In late summer, it’s an ideal place to relish the shade, verdant lawns, and flowing fountains.
Evanston’s Best Kept Secret
The Arrington Lagoon at Dawes Park is a serene hideaway adjacent to Lake Michigan. It’s just behind the popular beachfront areas of Clark Street Beach and Greenwood Street Beach. It’s a relatively lesser-known spot in Evanston, perfect for communing with nature. The lush park offers stunning views of Lake Michigan. It also provides ample shade trees, blooming gardens, a covered picnic area with barbecues, and on-site bathrooms. Paved paths wind through the park, passing along the Arrington Lagoon with picturesque fountains.
Activities in the Park
A few residents may have discovered Dawes Park over the summer, during the Starlight Concert Series. Although the series is now complete, the park also offers a lovely place to enjoy a picnic, play Pokemon Go (there are several sites within the park), take a bike ride, fly a kite, or participate in various markets or fairs that pop up during the warm months. Many folks enjoy the lack of hustle-bustle here. It’s a great place for outdoor lovers of all ages. Come to feed the ducks, take the pup for a walk, read or book, or enjoy a fabulous photo op.
Other Nearby Attractions
