Did you know that some of Chicago’s greatest museums remain open after hours? Those Chicago museums open after hours that are not to be missed include:
Chicago History Museum
The Chicago History Museum dates back to 1856, making it the oldest cultural institution in the city. It was originally called the Chicago Historical Society. And it tells local stories through exhibitions, programs, and publications. Visitors can explore an array of exhibits including Chicago: Crossroads of America. It’s where everyone can climb aboard L Car No. 1, visit a jazz club, and window shop at Marshall Fields. The museum stays open until 9:00 pm on Tuesdays.
When Adler opened in 1930, it became the first planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. Thousands of people walk through the doors each year to enjoy programs based on credible science and educational research. Shows include Planet Nine, Cosmic Wonders, and Welcome to the Universe. On the third Thursday of every month, those 21 and over can enjoy Adler After Dark. The theme changes every month, which means it’s never the same event twice.
Museum of Contemporary Art
Thirdly, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, the mission is to offer innovative exhibitions, performances, and programs designed to inspire. It began in 1967 after a group of collectors, artists, and architects united with a shared belief that the city deserved an art museum dedicated to exploring new art. The permanent collection features more than 2,500 works spanning media and movements from the 1920s to the present, and temporary exhibitions are also on display. Visitors can explore the museum after hours on Tuesdays and Fridays when it’s open until 9:00 pm.
