Green City is the Premier Farmer’s Market in Chicago

Not far from The Park Evanston Apartments is a place that connects farmers and local producers to the greater Chicago community. Indeed, we are talking about the Green City Market. It’s the most abundant year-round farmer’s market in Chicago. Vendors include:

Green Eyed Lady

The Green Eyed Lady was born when Emily Bult and Laura Petitgoue wanted to share their love of lavender with others. This plant is famous for its scent and has an array of uses. It’s the perfect addition to any meal, whether as a garnish or main ingredient. Lavender offers a subtle floral taste to both sweet and savory dishes, and a small pinch goes a long way.

Jake’s Country Meats

Jake’s Country Meats is a farm dedicated to producing pasture-raised pork, beef, and poultry. The animals are raised, in the small farm tradition, using sustainable practices. The Robinson family has worked the land since the 1870s. Nate and Lou established Jake’s Country Meats over 115 years later. Indeed, they want it to be “your connection to your food”. The selection includes pork chops, St. Louis spare ribs, and breakfast patties.

Oriana’s Oriental Orchard

After declaring store-bought Asian pears to be too bland, Oriana Kruszewski began growing them in her backyard. She bought a 40-acre farm in 1996 and produces dozens of pear varieties from China, Japan, and Korea. The land has been USDA Organic Certified by the Midwest Organic Services Association since 2011.

The market is open at Lincoln Park on Wednesdays and Saturdays through October. However, from November through April, shoppers can find it inside at the Peggy Notebaert Museum.
